Type 5: Limbic ADD
Symptoms:
• inattentive
• low energy
• chronic low grade depression
• negative self-image
• negative thoughts
• differential diagnosis: limbic ADD /depression (cyclic, pre-frontal improves with concentration)
Underlying cause: ..Deficiency of dopamine and norepinephrine
Treatment: dopamine stimulators (Ritalin etc) plus ..norepinephrine stimulators (phenylalanine, tyrosine) variously combined with: ..antidepressants (Imipramine) ..mood stabilizers (Wellbutrin)
• Diet: protein-rich diet, excercises
Type 6: Ring of Fire ADD ..Symptoms: a mixture of all types
• inattentive, distractible
• irritable hyper-verbal
• cyclic mood changes
• oppositional/defiant
• aggressive (sometimes violent, even homicidal)
• negative thoughts (often suicidal)
• antisocial behaviour (highest % of prison pop.)
• frequently substance abuse, bad company
Underlying cause: ..Deficiency of dopamine and serotonin
• dysfunction of the several brain areas involved in mood and self-regulation of behavior
• differential diagnosis type 6 ADD versus bipolar disorder not always easy (can have both)
Treatment: ..dopamine stimulators (Ritalin etc.) combined with: antipsychotic medication (e.g., Risperdol) ..or anticonvulsants Comprehensive Treatment ..
